Rages Between Families: Who Will Pay
The Price?”
A grand masked ball was held by Lord and Lady Capulet at their house
in Verona. Guests have reported of overhearing Tybalt
Capulet talking to Lord Capulet about a Montague that was unexpectedly sighted
at this fete. It is said by another guest that they heard Tybalt Capulet talk about Romeo Montague, “Now, by the honor of our family,
I do not consider it a crime to kill him.” It is also reported that Lord
Capulet tried to calm down Tybalt Capulet but he
vowed to revenge Romeo’s intrusion the next day. It is said that the very
next day Benvolio and Mercutio,
both part of the Montague family, were out walking in the streets of Verona.
They were confronted by Tybalt Capulet who asked
where Romeo was. It has not yet been confirmed the conversation that went on
between Mercutio Montague and Tybalt
Capulet. A resident of Verona watching this scene says that Romeo Montague
showed up when Mercutio and Tybalt
drawled their swords. Romeo tried to separate the two of them but Tybalt stabbed Mercutio right under
Romeo’s arm! Tybalt then fled from the scene
and left Mercutio severely wounded. It is said that Tybalt stabbed Mercutio to have
Romeo avenge his friend’s death. As Mercutio dies
he shouts his last words, “They’ve turned me into food for worms.
I’m done for. Curse your families!” Romeo avenges Tybalt and kills him. Benvolio
tells Romeo to flee the scene quickly. Both families are dealing with much
grief. As the Capulet and Montague families arrive Benvolio
tells what happened. Lady Capulet refuses to believe
it and calls Benvolio a liar. Romeo has yet to be
seen but has received the banishment as the punishment for slaying Tybalt. The Nurse of Juliet Capulet informs us that Juliet
has not stopped crying since she heard the news of her cousin’s death.
Many are saddened by theses deaths. It’s another act of hatred between
these families. How long will it go on?
